Look, See and Watch
Let's learn to differentiate between look, see and watch.

Look (Verb) - is controlled and quick, Look is often used in continuous form (+ ing = Looking)
1. use eyes (to turn your eyes in a particular direction)
Example : Look closely and tell me what you see. / She looked at me and smiled. / I got up and looked out of the window.
2. search (to try to find somebody / something)
Example : Are you still looking for a job? / They are always looking for ways to save money.
3. appear/seem
Example : The garden looks nice. / That looks like an interesting book.

See (verb) - you have no control over what you see, rarely used in the continuous form.
1. use eyes (to become aware of somebody/something by using your eyes)
Example : She looked for him but couldn't see him in the crowd. / I looked out of the window but saw nothing (Past Tense - Saw)
2. watch (to watch a game, television programme, performance, etc.)
Example : I really want to see this film now. / I remember seeing that movie when I was a kid.
3. meet by chance / visit
Example : It's so good to see you! / Come and see us again soon.

Watch (verb) - is controlled and continuous; often used in continuous form
1. to look at somebody/something for a time, paying attention to what happens
Example : A large crowd watched the game on Saturday. / ‘Would you like to play?’ ‘No thanks—I'll just watch.’
2. to take care of somebody/something for a short time
Example : Could you watch my bags for me while I buy a paper? / It's OK, I can watch the baby for a while.
3. to be careful about something
Example : Watch your bag—there are thieves around. / Hey, watch where you're going!
