It is best to calculate what is in the brackets first.I f there is not anything in the brackets then you may place one between 2 numbers.

Area

When you are entitled a question to find out how many tiles of lengths 2 by width 5. You must put the lengths and with of the floor over the legs and width of the tile and then simplify.

Perimeter

There are no trick just formulas such as

perimeter of a square: length times 4

perimeter of a rectangle:(length times width) times 2

find the length of the square: perimeter divided by 4

length of rectangle: width times 2, minus perimeter, divided by 2

mode and modal

mode is the most and modal is which appears most.

mean/average

to find mean you must add all of the numbers and then divided it by the number of numbers.
