A comma splice is two simple sentences incorrectly joined with a comma but no coordinationg conjunction:

  • My roommate wants to win TOUR DE FRANCE someday, he spends hours riding his bicycle.

Fix the sentences in either of these two ways:

  • 1. Seperate the sentences with a full stop: My roommate wants to win TOUR DE FRANCE someday. He spends hours riding his bicycle.

  • 2. Add (or keep) the comma and add a coordinating conjunction: My roommate wants to win TOUR DE FRANCE someday, so he spends hours riding his bicycle.
