  • I can describe the impact humans have on the environment.

Essential Question

  • How does pollution affect the plants and animals in the Swamp & Marshes habitat?

4

Pollution Problem

Acid rain pollution is impacting Okefenokee. The air pollution comes from many sources, including industry, power plants, and automobiles which gets absorbed in the clouds mixing with the rain. Rain falls and carries pollutants. Since rain is the main source of water for this habitat and the habitat itself is roughly 75% water this is a major problem in the swamp/marsh region of Georgia.

Question image

Where does acid rain come from?

1

The animals in the swamp carry and spread it throughout the Okefenokee Swamp.

2

It comes from the boats of the fishermen in the Okefenokee Swamps.

3

It comes from industry, power plants, and automobiles that absorbed in the clouds mixing with the rain.

7

How Changing the Environment Affect the Plants & Animals

With acid rain pouring into the swamp on a regular basis, the water can be unsafe for animals to live and plants to grow. The pollutants and chemicals that evaporate into the clouds and eventually pour down on the Earth add toxins to the water where these organisms are trying to live.
