Investigation 2.2 Force of gravity

2
We will be studying this data to learn more about the acceleration of gravity on different celestial objects

Data titles
Surface Gravitational Acceleration- force of gravity on each location Surface Gravitational Acceleration- aceleración gravedad en cada ubicación
Gravitational force (earth g)- Gravitational force on each plant, when compared to earths g (9.8) Fuerza gravitacional (tierra g)- Fuerza gravitacional en cada planta, en comparación con las tierras g (9.8)
Remember you can calculate the surface gravitational acceleration by multiplying earths g x the location's gravitational force in earth g's (mars: 9.8x .38) Recuerde que puede calcular la aceleración gravitacional de la superficie multiplicando las tierras g x la fuerza gravitacional de la ubicación en la tierra g's (marte: 9.8x .38)

Mass (Earth masses)- amount of matter in planet, when compared to Earth.
Radius (earth radius)- distance to the center of the body (half of the diameter). Measured in comparision to Earth's radii.

Why does Jupiter have the largest gravitational force of the planets?
6
Multiple Choice
Mercury and Mars have the same gravitational acceleration, but different masses. What other information do you see in the table that could cause this?
The radius
Mass
Gravitational acceleration
7
The other date that varies is the diameter of the planets. So it could have something to do with the size (diameter) of the planet.

Multiple Choice
Uranus is more massive than Earth, but has less gravitational acceleration. Which planet has a larger radius?
Uranus
Urano
Earth
La Tierra

Multiple Choice
Saturn is more massive than Neptune, but has less gravitational acceleration. Which planet has a larger diameter?
Saturn
Saturno
Neptune
Neptuno

The Gravitational force between two objects is related to the distance from their center of mass. This means the farther you are from the center of an object, in this case the larger planet's diameter, the weaker the gravitational force will be.

(Write this in your notes)
(Escriba esto en sus notas)
As you increase the distance between objects (their centers of mass). their gravitational force decreases.
the further you are froom the cemter of an object- in this case the larger the planet's diameter, the weaker the gravitational pull will be
