What is a Nutrient?

  • A substance that your body needs to function.

  • Provide your body with energy in the form of calories

Carbohydrates, Fats, Proteins, Vitamins, Minerals, and Water

  • Two types: Simple and Complex

  • Simple (sugars) fruit, milk, and honey

  • Complex (starches) potatoes, whole grains, pasta

  • Fiber- A complex carb found in raw fruits. Helps removed wastes.

  • We get most of our energy through fats.

  • Saturated fats- solid at room temperature

  • Trans fat- Start off as liquid and made solid through processing Stick margarine

  • Unsaturated fats- Remain liquid at room temperature
