Integration of Knowledge and Ideas in Informational Text
Have you ever heard a speech given by a candidate running for office? Candidates make claims about how the country should be run or how to improve their communities. Smart voters try to learn all they can about the candidates before they cast their vote. They listen to the candidate's speeches, read articles expressing different viewpoints, and follow reports in the media. Only after integrating all of that information, do they decide how to vote. A smart reader, like a smart voter, collects knowledge and ideas from a variety of sources and integrates it, or puts it together, to thoroughly understand a topic. Then the reader, like a voter, can make an informed choice about what to believe.
