Active Voice (subject +verb +object)
the subject of a sentence performs the verb’s action
gives a strong, direct, and clear tone
Examples:
Jon rides in the tractor over the hill.
She drives the tractor fast.
Ebin runs quickly through the woods.
6
Passive Voice (object +verb +subject)
the subject is acted on by the verb
is always constructed with a conjugated form of "to be" + the verb’s past participle
doing this usually generates a preposition as well
Examples:
The tractor is ridden over the hill by Jon.
The tractor is driven fast by her.
