Inferences

  • Inferences are facts about a setting or character that isn't in the story. I could say, "John loves music," or I could say "He plays the saxophone every day for one hour and loves to listen to music."

3

John was an 8-year-old studying at Homeson Elementary School. While his classmates were more focused on action cards and recess, John was a great student. While his classmates enjoyed their time home, he learned to draw many animals and often went outside to play or just to explore. He excelled in science and always got a 100 on assignments. He was always excited to go outdoors.

What inference can you make off this text? Answer this in the next question.

Fractions

  • 1st: make denominator or bottom equal

  • 2nd: add numerator or top

  • 3/5 + 1/5 = ?/??

  • In this case, the denominator is equal. Add the top, and make a new fraction with the same denominator. You get 4/5.

  • Note: If the denominator and the numerator are the same, it is one. 2/2 is 1, and 5/5 is also one.

Perimeter

Add

35

Perimeter

  • To get the perimeter of a shape, add all sides together. A square with a side of 4 has a perimeter of 16. You only need to know one side of a square to get a perimeter. All other shapes will require at least 2 sides.

  • If you know a rectangle's 2 sides (say it's 1 and 2), it will be the same value for the opposite side of the value. If the short side is one, the other side facing it is 1.
