Welcome to 2nd Semester!

  • These first two weeks we will:

  • work on our Garageband project

  • Prepare for auditions for next year

4

Composition Project

  • Add 2 instruments

  • Add Percussion (aka beats)

  • Line up voice tracks

  • Add slides to Powerpoint portfolios

5

Step 1

  • If you haven't recorded the two songs into Garageband you have to do that first

  • Recordings of the songs will be found in the files section of our Team

  • You can download these files, add them to Garageband and sing along with them when you do your recording if you need to.

  • YOU WILL NEED TO USE HEADPHONES SO THE PRE-RECORDED TRACK DOESN'T SOUND IN YOUR PROJECT

  • YOU WILL NEED TO DELETE THE PRE-RECORDED TRACKS AFTER. YOU RECORD YOURSELF

6

Step 1 of the Powerpoint

  • Title slide with Composition Project 1 and your name on it

  • One slide with things you learned from recording yourself and/or

  • Things that were easy/hard about recording the melodies and/or

  • Aha moments that happened while you were recording and/or

  • Discoveries you made about things you can do in Garageband

7

Step 2--Edit the melodies

  • Decide if you want the melodies to play at the same time or if you want to do something different

  • Possibilities would be

  • Start the second melody after the first one has started

  • cut the melodies up and alternate when the sections play

8

Step 2 of Powerpoint

  • Tell what you decided to do with the melodies and why you made that decision

9

Step 3 Accompaniments

  • Follow along as I do this with you

  • Make a keyboard track

  • Change the chords to the ones listed on this tic tac to board

  • Play the chords along with the recorded melody tracks and see which one sounds the best with each measure of the song

Step 3 of the Project cont'd

  • Keep track of what chords you like and when you think they should change to match the notes in the melody. You might want to write them down on the page that the solfege is written on in the assignment

Step 3 cont'd

  • Wear headphones and play the melody track and record the chords in the piano track that you like. You will need to remember when and where you change chords for the next part of this assignment

12

Step 3 of the Powerpoint

  • List what chords you are playing during the song

  • Some way document what chords you are playing and when you change them in the songs.

  • Show the documentation on this slide

13

Step 4 of the Powerpoint

  • List things you learned about Garageband and/or

  • Things you like/didn't like about the chord part of the project
