Aluminum Alloys
.
Nickel Alloys
.
Copper Alloys.
Titanium Alloys.
4
Importance of Engineering materials
Materials Science and Engineering is a key aspect of most companies the world over. In the race to make things stronger, cheaper, lighter, more functional and more sustainable, the manipulation of materials, their properties and processes is key.
Materials engineering is mainly concerned with the use of this fundamental knowledge to design and to produce materials with properties that will meet the requirements of society. As subjects of study, materials science and materials engineering are very often closely related.
5
The uses of engineering materials
Each material can be used to make a range of different things; for example, wood can be used to make tables, chairs, spoons, pencils, shoes, doors, floors and many more things. An object can be made out of different materials used together; for example, a chair can be made from metal and wood and plastic
These are used in packing, insulating materials, covers, etc. Example: Cotton, Nylon, Terylene, PVC, etc. Composites are the mixture of materials like metals and alloys and ceramics, metals and organic polymers, ceramics and organic polymers. These are used in electrical devices and airplane parts
