How to find the better unit rate...

  • Convert the given rates into unit rates using division. (You can use a calculator)

  • Determine which of the two unit rates is the better deal.

Example:

The bakery sells 12 cupcakes for $10. The supermarket sells 10 cupcakes for $7. Which is the better deal?


To find the unit rates, divide the $ by the # of cupcakes.


It cost the bakery $.83 per cupcake, and the supermarket $.70 per cupcake, therefore the Supermarket is the better deal!!
