Sixth Amedment
You can't get arrested and just thrown in jail forever. You get a speedy process. Sometimes the process takes awhile because your lawyer is working on gathering evidence to support you. Dependent on the crime, you may be offered bail. This is money you would pay to PROMISE to return to court. When you return to court, you get your money back. If you don't return to court, you are in MORE trouble. The amount of bail is dependent on the severity of the crime.

Provide a Witness
If you are charged with committing a crime on Tuesday, January 5th at 9:15 am but you were in Zoom with Uribe or I, you could ask us to be your witness. Your alibi to prove you couldn't have committed the crime, you were with us!

7th Amendment
These are the rights you have if you want to sue someone.
When you go to sue someone you have the option of having a jury or just letting the judge decide.
Adding a jury would take time. Time is money...paying for your lawyer, taking days off of work, etc. Dependent on what you are suing for you have to think about this.
Judge Judy would be an example of a Civil Trial without a jury. HOWEVER, that is TV and there are some disclaimers. I'll explain tomorrow.

Seventh amendment
Any rights not given to federal government are given to the states and people.
Trial by jury in Civil suits where money exceeds 20 dollars.
Right to bare arms
Religion, Speech , Press, Assembly, Petition

Bail & Punishment
If, for example, you are charged with stealing 50 airpods, your bail would not be $5 million. That's not reasonable. Also, while you are in jail for stealing airpods, the cops can't hang you by your fingernails. You must be treated humanely.

Basically....
This means you have rights even if they are unenumerated (a fancy way to say specifically stated). If Ms. Elsbernd wins the lotto and wants to quit - she can! (She would never, but she could!) If Mr. Uribe wants to dye his hair orange during baseball season - he can!
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Rights to the states...
Some things are left to the states. School, for example. Eighth graders in California learn US history. Eighth graders in Nevada have already learned it. A more current example...ELECTIONS...how states run their elections and count votes is up the the states. Marriage laws...how old you need to be. Driving laws are also state rules.
