Ecosystems

  • A group of living things.

  • These things interact with one another as well as their environments.

Slide image

3

Communities

  • Groups of species.

  • Living within the same ecosystem.

Slide image

4

Habitat

  • Place that animals live.

  • Has food and shelter.

Slide image

5

Producer

  • Make their own food from energy of the sunlight.

  • Provides food for animals.

Slide image

6

Consumers

  • Categorized by Primary, Secondary and Tertiary.

  • Primary consumers are Herbivores, meaning they only eat plants.

Slide image

7

Consumers

  • Secondary consumers are Carnivores.

  • Carnivores only eat other animals.

Slide image

8

Consumers

  • Secondary Consumers are also called Omnivores.

  • Omnivores eat both plants and animals.

Slide image

9

Consumers

  • Tertiary consumers are at the top of the food chain.

  • Humans are often a good example of Tertiary consumers.

Slide image

10

Decomposers

  • Consist of fungi and bacteria.

  • Break down dead matter and transfer those nutrients back into the soil.

  • These nutrients help plants to produce and create more producers.

11

Energy Pyramid

  • Shows the flow of energy at each trophic level in an ecosystem

  • The trophic level of an organism is the number of steps it is from the start of the chain.

Where do insects go in the Winter?

  • Insects have a variety of ways to try to survive the winter:

What is the coldest place on Earth?

  • The coldest place on Earth is the South Pole (Antarctica)

  • It's temperature has been measured at a record low of -89.2 degrees Fahrenheit.

Slide image

14

Does the North Pole actually have a North Pole?

  • The North Pole does not have an actual pole because its location is in the middle of the Arctic Ocean.

  • It freezes and melts so the "pole" does not have stable ground to place it on.

15

Does the North Pole actually have a North Pole?

  • The Earth's poles are actually points in which the Earth spins.

  • These two points of the Earths axis never change.

  • They are located in the Artic Ocean (North Pole) and Antartica (South Pole)
