Introduction:

To be healthy and to avoid dehydration, it is important to maintain a regular intake of water. Pure water is the best, but juice and soda also contain water, and the fact that they have added flavors can make them a better option for young people. The drinking habits of a class of Grade 9 students were monitored for one week in order to see how much, and what, teenagers were drinking at school.

The total number of drinks on most days was in the low thirties. In a class of twenty-four students, this shows that most students only consume one drink during the school day. However, on the day of the PE class, consumption of water and soda greatly increased. Juice, on the other hand, remained at its normal level. On three of the five days of the survey, consumption of drinks was essentially the same, suggesting that students have fixed habits or patterns of drinking.
