  • The purpose of a Newspaper is to tell us about things that are happening in the world (current affairs)

Headline!

  • Newspapers always have big writing on the front page.

  • This is called a headline (titular)

  • The headline is there to grab our attention, so they are normally, short and snappy

Subtitle/Subheading

  • A subtitle gives the reader more information about the story.

  • The caption on the picture helps us work out what the picture is showing us.

Lead Paragraph

  • While you have their attention, the lead paragraphs gives the reader the 5 W's of the story.

  • Who, What, Where, When and Why

Main Body

  • The main body of text gives the reader the rest of the bigger details of the story.

  • The main body is split into paragraphs, to make it easier to read

  • This normally includes quotes from people who are linked to the article.

  • This could be real or fictional.

  • Examples include, a teacher profile, a review on a school play, a sports match report.

  • It must be 200 words long, include a headline, subtitle and 4 paragraphs of text.
