Decimal Operations

  • Addition/Subtraction: Make sure to line up the decimals!!!!

  • Multiplying: Count how many numbers are behind the decimal point in both numbers to place your decimal!

  • Dividing: If your divisor has a decimal, you must move the decimal point in BOTH the dividend & divisor before dividing!

Multiple Choice

When you move the decimal in the divisor, what happens in the dividend?

1

You raise the decimal straight up

2

Nothing

3

You put a zero in the front

4

The decimal moves the same amount in the dividend that it moved in the divisor.

Least Common Multiple (LCM)

  • Where you try to find the smallest multiple they have in common!

  • This is usually found by skip-counting until they find a match!

Slide image

12

Greatest Common Factor (GCF)

  • Where you try to find the largest/greatest number that divides evenly into both numbers

  • Can be found by listing the different factors.

Combining Like Terms

  • You can only combine terms with the SAME VARIABLE!!

  • Variable: a letter that represents a number

  • Constant: a number by itself

  • Coefficient: a number multiplied by a letter (example: 6y)

Solving Equations & Inequalities

  • Use the inverse operation to find the answer to the equation or inequality.

  • The same is for inequalities!!

  • Example: 5y > 15

  •                    y > 3
