Write about something that was important to your person:

  • interesting things they saw or heard

  • personal thoughts and feelings

  • important events

  • daily happenings

Write the story of what happened that day:

  • Write about the experience from beginning to end

  • Add sensory details: What did your character see, hear, smell, taste, touch?

Journal writing works best when you reflect upon your experiences and feelings. Try to put yourself in your character's shoes by asking quetions and wondering.

Ask Questions

  • What was fun or interesting about this experience?

  • How do I feel about it now?

  • Why does it matter to me?

  • Think about what you character may have learned from this experience

  • Let your subject wonder what they could have done differently?
