What is an allusion?

• An allusion is a form a figurative language used when a writer (or speaker) makes a reference to a famous person, story, event, object, ect. to make a comparison or describe something creatively.

Allusions can use references from:

• literature

• movies

• cartoons/TV

• religion

• history

• mythology

Allusion VS Illusion

• Allusion is a type of figurative language

• Illusion is a false idea or visual trick

How do we figure out the meaning of allusions that may be new to us?
