Recognizing verbs once conjugated

This can be where it gets a bit tricky. You need to practice recognizing and translating verb stems quickly.

For example, with the following:

lavo

lavas

lava

lavamos

lavan

The stem "lav" in all of those conjugated verbs means "wash".

20

Fill in the Blank

Write in the stem of these verb conjugations:

espero, esperas, espera, esperamos, esperan

21

Fill in the Blank

Write in the stem of these verb conjugations:

regreso, regresas, regresa, regresamos, regresan

22

Fill in the Blank

Write in the stem of these verb conjugations:

cocino, cocinas, cocina, cocinamos, cocinan

23

Multiple Choice

What does this stem mean?

busc-

1

need

2

wait

3

look for

4

cook

24

Multiple Choice

What does this stem mean?

necesit-

1

use

2

stay

3

need

4

return

25

Multiple Choice

What does this stem mean?

limpi-

1

help

2

eat

3

read

4

clean

26

Now for the endings

Knowing the stems is one half of the equation.

You also have to have the endings and their meanings memorized.

Sometimes you will have the subject pronoun to jog your memory, sometimes you won't.

We'll practice three with subject pronouns, and three without.

27

Multiple Choice

Translate: ustedes comen

1

they eat

2

you all eat

3

we eat

4

you (singular) eat

28

3

4

3

they use

4

he uses

32

Multiple Choice

Translate: escribes

1

2

she writes

3

we write

4

they write

33

Almost there! We need to be familiar with our common nouns in their singular and plural forms.

Generally, Spanish nouns are like English nouns, they add an -s or -es to become plural.

34

Multiple Choice

Singular or plural: los amigos

1

the friend

2

the friends

35

Multiple Choice

Singular or plural: el arte

1

the art

2

the arts

36

Multiple Choice

Singular or plural: las familias

1

the family

2

the families

37

And finally! We need to be familiar with different articles in Spanish

Articles are words like "the", "a/an", and "some"

38

Articles in Spanish

For now, don't worry about the difference between masculine and feminine articles.

What we want to focus on for now is words that mean "the" and words that mean "a/an/some".
