The Law of Conservation of Energy states: energy cannot be cr________ or de__________
11
Energy
The ability to do work and cause change. Energy transfers cannot be seen with the human eye.
There are many forms of energy:
12
Mechanical Energy
Occurs when a force acts upon an object and the object uses the transferred energy as movement.
13

What is an electron?
14
Electrical Energy
Electrical energy is caused by moving electric charges called electrons. The faster the charges move, the more electrical energy they carry.
As the charges that cause the energy are moving, electrical energy is a form of kinetic energy.
Lightning, batteries and even electric eels are examples of electrical energy in action!
15
Light Energy
The Electromagnetic Spectrum includes all kinds of light. The human eye can only see visible light
When you watch TV, send a text message, or pop popcorn in a microwave, you are using electromagnetic energy. You depend on this energy everyday. Without it, the world you know could not exist.

What does 'Therm' mean in Greek?
17
Thermal Energy
Thermal energy is the energy a substance has due to its temperature. (The energy of moving or vibrating molecules,)
As a form of energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can be transferred from one place to another. Heat can also be converted to and from other forms of energy.

What do you think?
What do you wonder?
19
Sound Energy
Light and sound energy both travel in the form of waves.
Sound is the energy things produce when they vibrate (move back and forth quickly).
If you bang a drum, you make the tight skin vibrate at very high speed (it's so fast that you can't usually see it), forcing the air all around it to vibrate as well. As the air moves, it carries energy out from the drum in all directions.
20
Chemical Energy
Is the potential energy stored in the arrangement of atoms within molecules.
Breaking chemical bonds requires energy
Forming new chemical bonds releases energy
When bonds between atoms are broken or formed, this is called a chemical reaction.

What is a neutron?
22
Multiple Choice
Which particle makes the identity of the atom?
Proton
Neutron
Electron
23
Nuclear Energy
Nuclear energy is the energy in the nucleus, or core, of an atom.
Nuclear energy can be used to create electricity, but it must first be released from the atom. In the process of nuclear fission, atoms are split to release that energy.
