An Army Dog

Sabi is a black Labrador that works for the Australian army. Her job is to sniff out bombs and explosive devices.

When she was in Afghanistan in September 2008, there was a raid in the military camp

A rocket exploded near Sabi and her handler, Corporal David Simpson. He suffered injuries, and Sabi disappeared. The soldiers looked for her, but they couldn´t find her body. David posted signs in the area, offering a reward.

A year and two months after the incident, an American soldier saw a black Labrador. He knew about Sabi, so he used special military commands, and the dog responded. He then took her to the camp to be reunited with David.

No one knows where Sabi was or what she did during those 14 months, but she returned well fed and healthy, with no injuries or signs of stress.

Because Sabi survived her ordeal and responded to the soldier´s commands after all those months, the Australian army gave her two medals for her bravery and devotion to duty.

David calls her his best friend and wants to adopt her when they return to Australia.
