Objetivos de aprendizaje
Meta - Today, I will be able to identify los cognados in a text, and los países that are Spanish speaking.
¿Por qué? - So that I can start reading Spanish texts to determine their meanings through cognados, and so that I know the Spanish speaking countries around the world.
¡Éxito! - I am successful when I write my own párrafo using seis cognados.
10
Los cognados
Los cognados (cognates) are words that look the same, sound the same, and mean the same thing between two languages. They are helpful indicators as to what a writing might be talking about.
11
Read through the following párrafo to find los cognados.
12
¡Ojo! Los cognados will not always be your friends!
There are amigos falsos (false friends) as well, and it is important to learn these by heart so as not to mistake them for those cognados that want to help you.
13
Some amigos falsos are:
embarazada (pregnant)
asistir (to attend)
el pulpo (octopus)
el éxito (success)
la ropa (clothing)
la sopa (soup)
el vaso (drinking glass)
