1
Ionic Bonding Versus Covalent Bonding
What is Covalent?
What's the difference between them?
2
Ionic Compounds
We have been learning how to create ionic compounds such as NaBr and MgCl2
We also learned how to name ionic compounds like sodium bromide and magnesium chloride.
But there are more than ionic compounds in the chemistry world. One other example of chemical bonding is called covalent compounds.
3
What is Covalent Bonding?
Covalent Bonding occurs between 2 nonmetals. The electrons between them are shared.
4
Multiple Choice
What table are nonmetals found in the periodic table?
The left side that is yellow
The middle that is purple
The right side that is green.
5
Properties of Covalent Bonding
They have a low melting point
They have a low boiling point
They can be found as solids, liquids or gases.
They do NOT conduct electricity.
These compounds CANNOT be dissolved in water.
6
Multiple Choice
Covalent bonds can be found as _______?
only solids
solids and liquids
solids, liquids and gases
7
Multiple Choice
