Number of Solutions for a system of equation

  • Remember a system of equations has three solutions possibilities

  • 1 solution, meaning there is one point of intersection for the two lines on a graph or one ordered pair that solve both equations.

  • 0 solutions, meaning no point on the graph is shared by the two lines and no order pair solves both equations

  • Infinite many solutions, meaning every point is shared by both lines and that both equation share all the same ordered pairs.

3

System of equation graph

  • On the graph a system with 0 solutions will have parallel lines

  • On the graph of a system with 1 solution there will be one intersection of the lines

  • On the graph of a system with infinite many solution, there will appear to be two line on top of each other appearing as one line.

Number of Solution for a system-Equations

  • For 0 solution, your equations with have equal slopes (number next to x) and different values of Y intercepts (number by itself)

  • For 1 solution, your equations will have different slopes and the Y intercept will not matter.

  • For infinite many solutions, your equation will have equal slopes and y intercepts.
