It comprises of 5 verses

Background

The Uncle of the Prophet (pbuh) Abu Lahab and his wife.

They were neighbors of the Prophet (saw)

His Uncle did not accept Islam and he cursed the prophet (pbuh) in public.

Him and his wife maltreated the prophet (saw)

Abu Lahab used to put torns from palm in front of the prophet's door.

Meaning

In the name of Allah, the compassionate, the merciful

May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.

مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُ وَمَا كَسَبَ

His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained

سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ

He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame

وَامْرَأَتُهُ حَمَّالَةَ الْحَطَبِ

And his wife - the carrier of firewood

 فِي جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِنْ مَسَدٍ

Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber

The chapter of thorns

• In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful

• May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he

• His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained

• He will burn in a Fire of blazing flame

• And his wife - the carrier of firewood

• Around her neck is a rope of twisted fiber.
