How was the decision to desegregate schools received?

The Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education was unanimous. Still, desegregation came slowly. Many government officials in the South promised to resist the court’s ruling. Senator Harry Byrd, Sr. of Virginia promised widespread resistance to the Brown ruling. Some government officials in the South even closed schools to stop their desegregation. Fearing a backlash, or angry response, some African American families chose not to send their children to previously all-white schools. They did not want their children or their families to be hurt. The federal government would have to find a way to enforce the court’s decision.

But, wait there's more....

Now, that we have learned that the ruling of desegregating schools didn't go over so well with Ruby Bridges and other students of color, you'll examine another situation on EdPuzzle about James Meredith.

Please go to Classlink (backpack) to access EdPuzzle and the assignment. It is due today. I think that you'll enjoy and learn something from it.
