3rd Grade Social Studies

Objective: Students will describe how ideas about medicine, hospitals and health care have changed communities over time. Students will understand how individuals have developed new technology and/or improved health care in communities and will identify the impact of new technology on communities.

Week 12: Vocabulary

• Life Expectancy- the time period a person is expected to live

• Louis Pastuer- Pastuerization (chemist who looked into why food goes bad)

• Sir Alexander Fleming- Penicilin (A vaccine to cure to help you feel better)

• Jonas Salk- Studies Vaccines (shots at the doctor)

• Jane Addams- Helped people who didn't live in the best conditions

• Hospital-A place you go when you are sick
