AI SL Core Topics

  • Algebra; linear, systems, series and sequences, complex.

  • Functions: Quadratics, Exponential; modelling, systems, logarithms etc.

  • Geometry: parallel and perpendicular lines, voronoi diagrams, SA and Volume, 3D figures.

  • Trig; right triangle trig, 3D trig, unit circle and trig functions.

  • Probability: simple, compound, conditional. Binomial.

  • Statistics: measure of center and spread, comparing samples.

  • Calculus: differentiation, rates of change, integration.

AI HL.... all of the SL AND

  • Vectors and Matrices

  • Poisson Distributions and comparison of regression samples

  • Graph Theory and Transformations

  • Complex systems and representations of trig functions

  • Differential Equations

6

Benefits of HL

  • More math!

  • Greater likelihood of college credits and at a higher level. Some don't take SL credits.

  • Better preparation for college.

  • Better study skills and a broader introduction to college topics.

7

Students who are considering these studies should consider HL:

  • Any business studies. These all require significant statistics and some calculus.

  • Any science or medical pursuits. Once again, lots of stats.

  • Engineering or IT. The vectors and matrices will be beneficial.
