Present Continuous

We use the Present Continuous to talk about:

• Activities at the moment of speaking

• We are doing exercises right now.

• Future plans and arrangements

• What are you doing next weekend?

When it comes to something that is in progress in the present we use the following time expressions:

• now, right now, at this moment, at the moment, at this time, at present

• Julienne is watching a comedy movie in the living at the moment.

But if it is being used to refer to future plans/ arrangements or intentions, the time expressions are different:

• tomorrow, today, tonight, this (week, month, weekend, year), next (week, month, weekend, year), in ( a second, a minute, an hour, a week, a month, a year, in the future)

• Steve is having a party next Saturday.

Affirmative sentences:

• Subject + BE + verb-ing

• Please be quiet. THE CHILDREN ARE SLEEPING.

Negative sentences:

• Subject + BE + not+ verb-ing

• YOU AREN'T LISTENING TO ME.

Interrogative sentences:

• BE+ subject+ verb-ing ?

• IS SHE GOING HOME?
