Must- Have (got) to (phải)

  •  Must (cá nhân): Người nói thấy việc đó cần thiết phải làm

    E.g: I really must give up smoking (Tôi thực sự phải bỏ thuốc.)

  • Have (got) to (khách quan): Sự bắt buộc đến từ các yếu tố ngoại cảnh bên ngoài như luật lệ, quy định.

    E.g: You can't turn right here. You have to turn left, (because of the traffic system)

  • Need: cần

    E.g: I need to buy some cheese.

  • Needn't: Không cần, không phải

    E.g: Must I do this work? - No, you needn't.

  • CAN:

    + Khả năng ở hiện tại, khả năng chung

    E.g: He can speak French.

    + Một điều có thể xảy ra (possibility)

    E.g: Can it happen?

  • COULD (dạng quá khứ của CAN):

    + Khả năng ở quá khứ

    E.g: I could swim when I was five years old.

    + Khả năng nói chung (general ability)

    E.g: She could speak 3 languages.

  • BE ABLE TO

    + Khả năng làm được một việc gì

    + Đề cập tới một sự việc xảy ra trong một tình huống đặc biệt

  • MIGHT: khả năng xảy ra thấp hơn

Active voice: S+ Modals (may/must/ can/ could/ should/etc.)+V(bare-inf) +0

Passive voice: S (0) + Modals (may/must/ can/ could/should/ etc.) + BE + pp+ (by 0)


E.g:

Active: Our English teacher may give a test today.

Passive: A test may be given by our English teacher today.
