Percents are a type of Ratio

• Any percent can be written as a ratio with a denominator of 100

   $25\%\ =\ \frac{25}{100}\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ 4\%\ =\ \frac{4}{100}$  

• Since any percent can be written as a ratio, you can use equivalent ratios  and ratio tables to solve many percent problems. 

Percent's as ratios

• Any percent can be written as a ratio with a denominator of 100. To find what percent 3 is of 10, find a ratio that is equivalent to  $\frac{3}{10}$  and has a denominator of 100.  

•  $\frac{3}{10}=\frac{3\cdot10}{10\cdot10}=\frac{30}{100}\ or\ 30\%$  

•  $\frac{3}{10}$  is an equivalent ratio to  $\frac{30}{100}$
