Mean

The mean (average) of a data set is found by adding all numbers in the data set and then dividing by the number of values in the set.

Ex: 1,3,2,3

1+3+2+3=9

9 is the mean.

3

Median

The median is the middle value when a data set is ordered from least to greatest. If there are two middle values add the two numbers together and divide by 2 and that number is your median.

Ex: 1,3,5,3

Rewritten as 1,3,3,5

3 and 3 share the middle value therefore I will solve

3+3=6

6/2=3

3 is my median.

4

Mode

The mode is the number that occurs most often in a data set. If more than one then both are the mode. If no number repeats then there is no mode.

Ex: 1,3,5,3

3 occurs twice in the data set.

3 is my mode.

Ex: 1,3,5,1,3

3 and 1 occur twice in the data set.

1 and 3 are my mode.
