  • passed to silence John Adams' critics

  • tageted "aliens" who were not citizens

Tready of Fort Wayne

  • William Henry Harrison, governor of Indiana territroy signed tready that allowed him to purchase 3million acres of land

  • Tecumseh declared tready void because the Shawnee did not agree to the sell.

  • 1811, Harrison's forces defeate the Shawnee

  • Canada welcomed Tecumseh and supported teh Shawnee

The War of 1812-

  • 1812, President James Madison declared war on the British

  • Phase 1- Britian was still fighting France, so America was able to win victories and boost American confidence

  • by 1813, the British threat had dwindled in the Northwest.

  • Phase 2- 1814, British burned down the capital

  • then attacked Fort McHenry--

  • America defeated British troops invading from Canada

  • Jan, 8, 1815, the Tready of Ghent was signed and ended the war.
