2
Objective
To calculate density
To takes notes in your journal for future use when calculating density during chemistry.
3
VOCABULARY - Write in your journal PG #28
Classify - To sort or put things into groups based on similar and dissimilar physical, chemical, or biological characteristics.
Matter - anything that has volume and mass
Volume - the amount of space an object takes up. Measured in milliliters (mL)
Mass - the amount of how much matter is in an object, measured in grams (g)
Density - the amount of matter in a given space or volume
Displacement - a procedure used to measure the volume of a solid object by placing it in a known amount of liquid, like water, and finding the difference in the liquid volume measurements before and after the object is added.
Physical Property - A characteristic that can be observed or measured without changing the substance.

THINK!
Do you know how to tell if gold is “real or if it is something else such as “fool’s gold?
Many jewelry stores in the U.S. sell fool’s gold as real gold.
One method of determining real gold from something else is to know its density.
The density of real gold is 19.3 g/cm3.
We can test to see if gold id real by using the displacement method from your vocabulary.
