Now, let's look at the meaning of personal hygiene.
The practice of keeping yourself clean, fresh, well-rested and well-groomed so that you:
a) Stay healthy
b) Feel good
c) Don't make other people sick.

The reason we wash hands is to get rid of germs!

So, what are germs anyway?

Germs are teeny, tiny organisms that can make you sick.

Because germs are so small that you cannot see them, millions of germs can be on any given surface at a time.
How many germs do you think we encounter on a regular day?

So, what should you do?

Make sure you use proper hand washing technique!

Proper hand washing procedure
1.Wet your hands.
2.Soap.
3.Lather and scrub for 20 seconds (two renditions of the song happy birthday)
4.Rinse 10 seconds
5.Turn off the tap
6.Dry your hands with a towel
Remember to note to walk between your fingers, under your nails and the tops of your hands. Don’t forget if you have a paper towel to throw it in the trash can!

BUT germs aren’t just on your hands… that’s why you need to clean your WHOLE body.

Why is showering/bathing important?

Showering/Bathing regularly..
•Cleans away dead skin cells and dirt
•Helps skin smell and feel good
•Keeps germs from giving us infections and making us sick

Proper bathing/showering isn’t just jumping in the bath or shower and getting wet.
To really clean yourself off and to remove all the dirt and germs it is important to wash your whole body, making sure to get all of your nooks and crannies, like your belly button and in your armpits.

Another important component of staying clean and smelling good is using antiperspirant and deodorant.
Antiperspirant and deodorant keep us from sweating a lot and smell.

Wearing clean clothes.
As you move and play throughout the day, your clothes pick up dirt and germs as well.
Germs can start to grow on sweaty clothes, making them smell bad. These germs can also make our skin sick. Wearing clean clothes, most importantly clean socks and underwear helps keep us smelling, looking, and feeling good.
