HOW TO RELATE TEXTS TO SOCIAL ISSUES
Reading material is an author’s piece of mind. The content of the reading material is the lens by which he or she experienced life. He or she objectively builds upon the content with the use of valid and relevant information about his or her topic especially if it is of social issues, concerns, or dispositions in real life.
3
Social issues or problems are prevalent in all cultures. A social issue or problem is an issue that has been recognized by society as a problem that is preventing society from functioning at an optimal level. It is important to understand that not all things that occur in society are raised to the level of social problems.
4
Four factors have been outlined that seem to characterize a social issue or problem:
The public must recognize the situation as a problem.
The situation is against the general values accepted by society.
A large segment of the population recognizes the problem as a valid concern.
The problem can be rectified or alleviated through the joint action of citizens and/or community resources.
5
The following are the 4 main groups in which social issues are categorized:
Politics is a procedure in which some groups of people utilize their power and impact to function in an organized way for mutual decision making. It is also considered as one of the biggest social issues as the maximum number of verdicts declared by the governments might not essentially help the poor people in the society. In fact, the leaders gratify their self-centered interests with the misuse of public funds.
