Online Scamming
More sophisticated than in past
Scammers target adults but also those your age
We must KNOW what scammers expect so PLEASE stay internet safe
3
ALWAYS Remember
If something seems too good to be true online, it more than likely is.
If you go to a website and you see a pop-up ad, saying you just won a FREE Macbook-- THIS IS PROBABLY A SCAM!
If you get an e-mail saying you just won $1,000,000-- THIS IS PROBABLY A SCAM!
4
Poll
Have you ever seen an ad or saw something online that you knew was a scam such as getting a free Macbook, winning money, or something similar?
yes
no

Whether you have or have not..
Whether you answered YES or NO on the previous slide, it time it is likely that you will see a scam online. If you are asked for any personal information on a website that is not secure, you could be in for a scam.

If you see on Facebook a post of a celebrity offering you a computer or a smartphone for free, more than likely...
this is a scam

Safe Websites
Usually have a lock beside the website address at the top of the page OR
Have an icon that when you hover over, it will see View Site Information.
Look for this icon on the next slide. (It is near the top, just to the left of google.com)
8
Do you see the small icon at the top, just to the left of google.com? This icon means this website is SAFE.
9
Facebook/ Instagram Gift Card Giveaways
I have personally seen on both Facebook and Instagram where FREE gift cards were going to be given away to the first 10 people who shared or liked a picture.
If you do not personally know the person or organization who is giving away the gift card-- IT IS PROBABLY A SCAM!
10
Personal Information
If you receive an email asking for your personal information or credit card information: it is 99% a scammer. Contact the company through their official website to double check if you are not sure.
