Types of Story Writing Tasks

• Free story eg Write a story about your last holiday

How do I write a story?

ALWAYS TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO PLAN

Beginning

• TITLE --> Pick sth short and catchy that doesn't give much information about the story

• Start with the sentence given or else you'll lose marks

• If no sentence is given start by setting the scene of your story "It was a sunny day and Maria was walking. She was going to visit her sick grandma..."

Middle

• Use Linking Words eg At first, afterwards, as soon as etc

• Use adverbs and adjectives to make descriptions more vivid eg Slowly, Suddenly, a beautiful green forest, an ugly and terrifying monster

• Show off your English by using as many past tenses as possible --> I was walking home when I heard John calling my name. He was running to catch up to me because I had forgotten my keys.

Middle part 2

• You can use quote marks (he said "I must go" and then he disappeared) to make your story more vivid

• If you are asked to include specific ideas/words (old friend+foreign country) youn must do it or else you'll lose marks

• Show off your vocabulary eg use unlocked instead of open

Ending

• Use specific sentence if asked or else you'll lose marks

• Say how the story ended

• Include how the characters felt by the end of the story
