  • Modify a verb, adverb, or adjective by telling where, in what manner, or to what extent (also an adverb phrase)

Examples of Prepositional Phrases

  • The banker with the red face nervously counted the money. (the noun, banker, is being modified)

  • Those by the door are packaged and ready to ship. (the pronoun, those, is being modified)

  • We raced toward the door when the bell rang. (the verb, raced, is being modified)

  • I am very energetic without drinking coffee or tea. (the adjective, energetic, is being modified)

  • I walked carefully near the fragile house of cards. (the adverb, carefully, is being modified).
