Six Syllable Types

• Closed Syllable - one vowel, vowel is short, boxed in by a consonant

• V-E syllable - vowel, consonant, silent e. The vowel is long and says it's name.

• Open syllable - the syllable ends in a vowel. The vowel is long and says it's name.

• Final Stable syllable - the syllable (and word) ends in consonant le. The e is silent.

• R Controlled syllable - The syllable contains: ar, or, er, ir, ur.

• Double Vowel syllable - the vowel contains two vowels side by side that make one sound
