GOAL: To be able to determine when you can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find an unknown length.

The Theorem

• A 90^o angle is a RIGHT angle.

• Need a right angle to use the Pythagorean theorem

• Any rectangle can be turned into 2 right triangles that have the same dimensions.

• Another way to think about this: (short leg)² + (middle length leg)²=(longest leg)²
