An adverb is a part of speech that modifies a verb, adjective or an another adverb

• Time

• Place

• Frequency/Number

• Degree

Manner

Gives additional information about the manner in which an event or action takes place. It tells us how an action is done. It answers the question 'how' or 'in what manner'

Examples: [Blue color for manner and Red color for adverb]

a] He ran quickly so that he could catch the bus. [How he ran-Quickly]

b] Uncle Karan solved the puzzle easily. [How he solved-Easily]

Time

When the action takes place. It answers question 'when'

Examples:

a] The class is over. You can leave now. [When to leave-Now]

b] We will submit the assignment next week.[Submit when-Next Week]

Place

Where an action takes place. It answers the question 'where'

Examples:

a] She carried all the paints upstairs. [Carried where-Upstairs]

b] Everyone's books are kept in that shelf. [Kept where-In]

Frequency/Number

How many times or how frequently we did the thing. It answers the question 'how often' or 'how frequently'

Example:

a] I have visited Goa thrice. [How often-Thrice]

b] We weekly have a family time. [How often-Weekly]

Degree

It tells us to what level it extended to. It answers the question 'how much' or 'to what extent'

Example:

a] The food was extremely spicy. [How much spicy-Extremely]

b] The dance was greatly performed. [To what extent-Greatly]
