Solving Equations Notes:

• In order to solve an equation, we must isolate the variable.

• In order to do this, we must use the inverse operation. 

• Whatever we do on one side of an equation must be done on the other side.

Solving Two-Step Equations:

Add or Subtract to get rid of the constant (number by itself)

Multiply or divide to get rid of the coefficient (number next to the variable)

Example 1:

6x + 8 = 50

Example 2:

13 = -4k + 9
