Instruments require a vibration to make their sounds.

  • Woodwind instruments use a single reed or double reed for vibration and have keys to make their sounds.

  • Brass instruments need a buzz from your lips, air from your lungs, and use valves to make their sounds.

  • Stringed instruments need to be plucked or bowed to make their sounds and change pitch by placing fingers on frets.

  • Percussion instruments have to be hit, shaken, or scraped to cause vibration making their sounds.
