Reported Speech

The purpose is to report the meaning of what someone said. Without using the exact words.

Direct Speech

• We repeat the exact words.

• We usually use the verb say.

• The words of the speaker are put in quotation marks.

Reported Speech

We report what somebody said. We use a reporting verb, usually say or tell, followed by that and the reported statement.
