What is long shore drift?

  • The slow shifting of sand and pebbles along a beach.

  • It happens when waves move towards the shore at an angle.

  • The prevailing wind is the main factor that causes this process.

  • The prevailing wind moves the waves in the same direction.

In this process the waves pick up particles of sand and pebbles.

Then they move the particles up the beach, knowns as SWASH.
