Modal verbs are used to express ideas such as advice, prohibition, ability, possibility, permission, and obligation.

MODAL VERBS - MEANING AND FORM
- Modal verbs are used with all subject pronouns without any spelling changes. After modal verbs, use the verb in its base form.
- In affirmative or negative statements use the modal verbs (with or without not) between the subject and the main verb in its base form.
