Surviving A&P
2
Welcome to your new part-time job!
A&P is a demanding class that requires a lot of time.
If you want to earn top grades, you must attend 5 hours per week in lecture/lab and 15+ hours per week studying on your own or with friends.
This adds up to at least 20 hours per week that you'll spend studying --and just for this one class!
3
Get ready for an Information Waterfall!
There are 6 modules in A&P, and each module covers 4-6 chapters.
You will have a test on each module every 2.5 weeks.
Tests are broken into two parts: Lecture and Lab
4
Poll
Why are you taking A&P?
It's required for my WSU Tech degree or certificate.
I'm going to transfer these credits to another college or university.
I like learning about the human body.
I have to take a science class, and I thought it would be the easiest/most interesting class to take.

A&P Success Tip #1: Attend class & be prepared for it
Do not miss lecture or lab.
If you have to miss, email your instructor via Blackboard to let him/her know.
Review all videos and supplementary materials online in Blackboard.
Always read your chapter(s) BEFORE class.
Actively participate in class.

Poll
How many hours per week do you spend studying A&P outside of class?
1-5 hours per week
6-10 hours per week
10-15 hours per week
15+ hours per week
7
A&P Success Tip #2: Make time to study
Going to class isn't enough! If you want to thrive in this class, you need to plan on spending at least 15 hours per week studying outside of class
Schedule time each day to study--don't wait to cram it all in right before a test.
You may need to rearrange your "real life" activities to allow you time to concentrate on your studies.
Get a free planner in the Tutoring HUB and work with a tutor to plan out your study time.
8
Poll
What study strategies work best for you?
I make my own flash cards.
I color diagrams and anatomical pictures.
I like to touch and manipulate 3-D models.
I like to study charts and diagrams in my book or online.
9
A&P Success Tip # 3: Take good notes
WSU Tech encourages the use of Cornell notes, but any note-taking method you use that will help you remember parts, functions, and concepts is good.
Notes are critical to help you "connect the dots" between lecture and lab.
The Tutoring Hub offers help creating a note-taking system that works for you.
10
Poll
I learn best when I study
on my own
with a small group of friends
in a structured classroom setting
one-on-one with a tutor
11
A&P Success Tip #4: Join a study group
Peer study helps you learn new material and also reinforces concepts you already know.
The Tutoring Hub offers study sessions facilitated by a tutor. You can study with your friends, join a group of peers, or work on your own all while having a tutor handy.
12
A&P Success Tip #5: Don't wait until you are struggling to get help.
Build a relationship with your instructor by emailing/call him/her with questions.
Use all the resources available in the Tutoring HUB: Tutors, models, note templates, extra credit activities, study groups, etc.
Don't ignore emails from your instructor or the Tutoring HUB.
