Types of Numbers

We already know about Whole Numbers and Integers, but did you know that all of the numbers (fractions, percents, decimals) all fit into specific number categories.

Counting Numbers

• Counting Numbers are the natural counting numbers

• 1, 2, 3, 4, .......

• It does NOT include zero.

Integers

Integers include Negative and positive whole numbers that do not have a decimal or remainder.

Whole Numbers

• Includes any POSITIVE numbers that do not have a remainder

• DOES NOT INCLUDE INTEGERS

Rational Numbers

• Rational Numbers include all Integers(positive and negative)

• Rational numbers include any number that can be written as a fraction.

• It includes Decimal that end or repeat.

• It does NOT include decimals that have no pattern and go on forever such as pi=3.14159265....................

Irrational Numbers

• Does NOT INCLUDE ANY RATIONAL NUMBERS

• Only includes decimals that are real, but do not repeat.

• It includes any decimal that does not repeat a pattern and goes on forever.
